Creating Actions for Elements


First you need Photoshop.


A simple action like Guide Lines.


  1. In Photoshop "Create New Set" that is the fourth button from the left in on the bottom of the Action Pallet. The name you give this Set is the name that elements will use.
  2. Next click on"Create New Action" that is the fifth button from the left in on the bottom of the Action Pallet. A Dialogue will open. Give it a name if you want Then click on record.
  3. Then go to the main menu > View > New guide and finally click on OK.
  4. Click on the stop record that is the first button from the left in on the bottom of the Action Pallet.
  5. Because you want this pallet to open in Elements you must turn on "Toggle Dialogue On/Off" This is the little square on the second column in from the left in the action pallet.
  6. Now highlight the Line that contains the name that was created when you did step 1) "Create New Set".
  7. Now click on the little arrow in the top right hand corner of the Action Pallet scroll down to "Save Actions" and save the action.
  8. Half way there.
  9. Create a new image 64 x 64 pixels. Be as creative as you wish with this image as this is the image you will click on in elements to activate your Action.
  10. Name the layer of this action the same as you named the Saved Action in step 7.
  11. If you want to want more than one action create a different layer and a unique image in each layer and name them for the action you want to call.
  12. If you don't want to Dialogue box to open, for example Layer masks, skip step 5.
  13. Finally if you want to create really complex actions you can do multiple steps with in step 3).
