 I also enjoyed The Snowman's Children quite a bit, but I was really blown away by his collection of stories, The Two Sams. If you can find a copy, I recommend it greatly.

Very sad book, but extremely well-written.  Hirshberg has a unique knack for 
nailing the quirks of childhood friendships.  To me, the plot of the book 
(although interesting), was a backdrop for the quality of writing of Mr. 
Hirshberg.

next up is Frank Portman's KING DORK.
