The physical sorting on my shelf is two categories: soundtracks (about 300) and everything else (about 2100). Many of the soundtracks should be tied to the non-movie projects of the artists (such as Tangerine Dream and Vangelis), but I haven't cataloged them in that order because I like having the soundtracks identifiable, and I don't have a tesseract for a bookshelf. I also don't have enough classical to catalog separately.
The short explanation of the eclecticism of the collection is: I'm married. Anything that looks Gaelic/Scottish/Celtic/folk or mainstream rock/grunge is probably my wife's. Anything that's goth, progressive rock, ambient, spoken word, non-British Isles ethnic/world music, electronic, or too weird to be classified is probably mine. A final category my wife disavows all association with is "high-quality Muzak".
